You can experience the flavors of Serbia right in Phoenix. Without a doubt the highlight of the two-day festival, is the delicious array of mouthwatering time-honored delicacies that will satisfy any appetite. Weeks prior to the event, several dozen church volunteers work to hand-prepare favorite dishes such as Sarma (cabbage leaves stuffed with ground beef, seasoned rice and herbs), Gibanica (thin filo dough filled with spinach and cheeses), and of course during the festivities spit-roasted lamb, pork., and more. Home- made pastries like Baklava (filo dough filled with nuts and spices), as well as Palacinke (Serbian crepes made to order) are all there to tantalize the taste buds. Plus many other traditional Serbian foods, which are available for snacking or to take home. Serbian music will fill the air, and performances by Serbian Folk Dancers in authentic costumes promise to add to the atmosphere. For festival-goers who like to get involved, dance workshops. Shoppers will enjoy the “piaca” marketplace offering arts and crafts, Serbian imports, jewelry, CD’s, books and icons. Plus numerous other vendors.
