Northlake Christian School introduces new 1-1 iPad program

COVINGTON, La. - Sept. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- The 2013-2014 Northlake Christian School year introduced a brand new one-to-one iPad program for students entering the 7th through 12th grades. This unique “paperless” program has been welcomed with positive response from both teachers and students and has hopes of equipping students with technology skills needed beyond high school.

The one-to-one program is only weeks old, but it has already proved beneficial in the lives of students and educators at the school. According to Secondary Assistant Principal Courtney Haindel, “The students are coming up with creative ways to demonstrate their understanding by creating content on the iPad that they would never be able to do with a traditional paper and pencil."

This summer, both students and teachers were required to attend iPad boot camp sessions. Students were trained on the ins and outs of the iPad and specific apps which are used in the new curriculum such as My Big Campus, Notability and Google Drive. The boot camp sessions prepared students for classroom use by exploring note taking features and educating students on proper internet research.

The iPads have been added to the school with a $300 technology fee through annual student tuition. Each iPad is protected by color coordinated Griffin cases specific to each student’s classification, are also protected through the school's Lightspeed content filter system from distractions and inappropriate apps. The iPads are monitored on the school’s Ruckus wireless system, maintaining ultimate security. Students are only given access to specific websites, apps and resources and have no access to the Apple Store.

The addition of iPads at Northlake Christian School has sparked creativity and learning for the students as they prepare for college. “Students who learn with iPads develop problem solving skills, the ability to focus on the task at hand, internet research skills and how to be an effective digital citizen,” says Haindel. Northlake Christian School anticipates a successful new year with the classroom addition.
