Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The hugely popular, multimedia exhibition “David Bowie is (http://blog.conciergepreferred.com/chicago/david-bowie-is-comes-to-mca-chicago/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=david-bowie-is-comes-to-mca-chicago)” will be busy traveling the globe this year, taking off from London to pay visits to Toronto and Brazil, and then stopping in Chicago. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-museums/3861-dir-museum-of-contemporary-art.html) will be the proud host of the exciting “David Bowie is” collection, and is the only U.S. stop scheduled for the show’s world tour. The show will be on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) beginning this fall, from September 2014 to January 2015.

“David Bowie is”

“David Bowie is” (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/culture/la-et-cm-david-bowie-chicago-20130806,0,454060.story) is a collection of 300 objects selected from Bowie’s personal 75,000-piece archive. It is the first international retrospective on Bowie, presenting an inspiring overview of the icon’s 50-year career, which he spent making music, making more music, and redefining popular culture. Among the objects selected are handwritten lyrics, photographs, set designs, album artwork, original costumes and wardrobe pieces, video installations, music-video storyboards, and other rare performance materials. This unique exhibition unveils how Bowie’s multiple decades in the music industry has both influenced and been influenced by wider movements in art, design, theater, fashion, sound, graphics, film, and contemporary culture.

A Songwriter, Performer, and More

David Bowie (http://www.davidbowie.com) is a musician, songwriter, performer, and arranger. He is known as the Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, and Major Tom, among other personas. Earlier this year the music icon released, “The Next Day,” his first album since 2003, but he likely will not be going on tour anytime in the near future, making his retrospective exhibition at the MCA all the more tempting for Bowie fans from across the country, and from around the world.

The Tour

London’s Victoria & Albert Museum (http://www.vam.ac.uk), which organized this fascinating show, has drawn 300,000 visitors since the exhibit opened in March. Museum hours were extended to 10 p.m. in order to accommodate the waiting crowds. After coming to Chicago for five months next fall, the show will move on to Paris, and then on to the Netherlands.
