Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The Chicago Architecture Foundation is hosting the third annual Open House Chicago (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-architecture/5286-free-architecture-event-open-house-chicago-2013.html) this October. Occurring over a single weekend, October 19 and 20, the OHC is a city-wide architectural tour that will feature 150 buildings with notable or interesting architecture around the city. No admission charge is planned and participants are responsible for creating their own itinerary for the days. The hours for the OHC are variable and depend on location, but most of the buildings will be open for touring from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Open House Chicago will feature buildings found in the Loop (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/mychiguides/4686-chicago-loop-things-to-do.html), Bridgeport, Garfield Park, Gold Coast, Hyde Park, Lincoln Park, Pilsen, Rogers Park, Uptown, and more. Structures with a wide range of uses, including restaurants, hotels, museums, and religious buildings, will be open to public. This makes it a superb chance to get a look inside of some of the city’s more impressive structures that one might otherwise have had to pay or work at to see. Additionally, for the culturally or religiously curious, churches, synagogues, mosques, and a Buddhist temple will all be open for exploration as part of Open House Chicago.

In addition to the building tours, OHC has a few other events to take part in. One example is a performance by the Civic Orchestra at the “Original Sears Tower” in Homan Square which will be immediately followed by Re-Built: Writers on Architecture and the Urban Plan in which Chicago authors examine the relationship between human beings and the environment that they have built for themselves. Other instances include performances of pieces inspired by architecture by Access Contemporary Music in the buildings that inspired them and an art walk through the Bridgeport neighborhood. Families aren’t left out either as a whole host of child-friendly activities are being offered as part of “OHCKids.” The program list (http://www.openhousechicago.org/programs/) is available at the Open House Chicago Website.
