By: Sarah Porter, www.holiday-invitations.com If you are frightened at the idea of planning up a kid's Halloween party invitation and all the event activities all by your lonesome, you probably should be. Like all other holidays, this spooky holiday, Halloween, is best celebrated and enjoyed when it's shared. You can start by getting with your little kiddie monsters and agree on some of the details. You'll want to organize your scary craft treats and festive eats to ensure you celebration is the talk of the town and enjoyed by all. Your customized and ghostly party invites for Halloween http://www.holiday- There is no need for extra help from outsiders to assist with setting up your scary dinner scene. Since it's members of your own family, just break out some tapered candles or, if you by chance, have one close by, a candelabra dim the lights. Put don a black dress, veil, or cape and some classic Halloween tunes, and talk like a vampire from Transylvania if you can. Your children will simply love all the attention and fuss. Cooking Heads for Your Halloween Platter Plan you organizing by getting all your heads together to discuss decorating can be quite enjoyable and fun, but while you're discussing, why not get ahead of the game by making some tasty noggins for the celebration? Start you cooking by preheating your oven to 150°F. After cutting the stems and leaves cut off, use potatoes, apples, beets, or rutabagas, and have your kids carve out mouth and eye shapes using a spoon or, with adult supervision, a sharp knife. The cuts should be about 1/2 inch deep and wide to ensure the head's melted facial appearance. When you have completed the carving, place the heads on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil and place them into the oven over night. After the heads have cooled down, place them beautifully on a platter as a table centerpiece. For those who might want something a bit more wacky for your event, put them on bamboo skewers and place them in house plants atop decapitated doll bodies, or even on the neck of a scarecrow. To get really eerie, make hovering heads by not using the bamboo skewers and, instead, string a needle and fish a line through the center of the head from top to bottom. Cut the line to the loop length you want, tie a knot, and hang the heads from the ceiling, safely out of the reach of your guests. Party Day Halloween Planning As the day of the event approaches, you're likely to hear more and more, 'is today the day?' You can avoid this from your children by creating a haunted, spooky house calendar listing the weeks before the day of the party. Simply glue gray and black construction paper to the back and front of an empty cereal box. After the glue has dried, cut down the center of the top, sides, and bottom of the box, ensuring the back and front of the box have approximately the same depth. Adults should then use a craft knife or scissors to cut several different shaped shuttered windows and doors into the sides, front, and back of the box. Be sure you have the same quantity of doors and windows as the number of days until the event. Next, glue a sheet of lighter colored construction paper to the inside of all the doors and windows. When finished, fold each shutter and door open and bring the back and front of the box back together, and at the same time sliding the boxes together like a gift box. You can then have your child place homemade spooky drawings, Halloween stickers, or seasonal cutouts from old books or magazines in the spaces. Finally, seal the sides of the box with glue or tape, and then shut all the shutters and doors, giving each a number corresponding to the party countdown. This can either be the date or number of days remaining until the event. Top it all off by decorating the outside of the haunted house to reflect your theme. You can include some of these ideas in your invite wordings for Halloween, http://www.holiday- Sweet Dreams with High Halloween Spirits Your little ghostly boy or girl is certain to have sweet dreams before the big day, but there's no need to wait until sleep takes over. Construct a ghost mobile to lull him to la-la land every night. Children will simply love molding spooky shapes while thinking about witches, ghosts, stars, moons, and bats, all from homemade clay. Using a small pot, bring the water to a boil, and then remove the pan from fire and stir in salt. Mix the flours together in a large heatproof bowl, and slowly stir in hot saltwater. Knead resulting dough on a flour covered surface. When the cooking dough is pliable and soft, the children can use cookie cutters or mold signature shapes. When they're finished, use a toothpick to make a little hole right above the center of each dough piece, and then bake pieces on a cookie sheet at 250°F for two to three hours. Check on the cooking every thirty minutes after the first hour of baking to ensure they're baking evenly. Let them cool, and then decorate with markers, paint, and glitter, and a clear acrylic spray should add the finishing touch. Once the treats are dry, string fishing line or string through them and attach at varying lengths to two connected wire coat hangers. Hang the mobile from the ceiling on a hook; balance the weights, stir up some wind; then kick back with your enthusiast kids to watch the mobile spin. Find more at http://www.holiday- End
