New book- Heart rate training for swimmers

Swimovate, developers of lap counting swim watches, have launched a new free book about heart rate training for swimmers. The book opens up the world of heart rate training to swimmers so they can maximise training benefits in the pool

STAINES, U.K. - Sept. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Until now swimmers have not traditionally used heart rate methods in their training as very few devices worked in the pool. The PoolMateHR has been specially designed for swimmers so it will transmit in the water so has changed that and opened up a whole new way for swimmers to maximise training benefits.

The PoolMateHR offers swimmers comprehensive details of the effectiveness of their workout, including number of laps swum, distance, speed, efficiency index, and the number of calories burned, and now heart rate data.

Lisa Irlam, CEO of Swimovate said: “We searched high and wide for literature about how to train with heart rate in the pool and couldn’t find anything. We enlisted the help of swim coaches Ray Gibbs and Mark Kleanthous to put together this booklet. It has lots of advice, drills and sample sessions about how to take heart rate training principles to the pool and really make the most from each session. ”

The booklet tells
•   How your heart rate differs in the pool from on land
•   Explains heart rate training zones and their benefits
•   Sample sessions to target different zones
•   Swim sessions for budding triathletes
•   Explanations of effective drills to improve technique

Swim coach Mark Kleanthous, www.ironmate.co.uk said “This booklet is unique, swimming with heart rate zones has not been documented like this before. I hope it will make a difference to lots of swimmers.”

With the PoolMateHR swimmers can view heart rate during their swim and download all the information afterwards to a computer for further analysis on a lap by lap basis. It comes with Swimovate’s analysis and tracking software as standard so you can see metrics such as speed, calories, stroke length and efficiency for each lap. The vibrating alarm gives swimmers feedback by gently shaking the wrist after a set number of laps or time interval so you don’t even need to look at the screen to track progress.

The booklet is free to download from http://www.swimovate.com/training/
