An Exhibition of Navajo and Pueblo Necklaces at the Silver Plume Gallery Double Bay

SYDNEY - Aug. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- The Silver Plume art gallery in the prestigious Double Bay area of Sydney, Australia, invites you to their event, ‘an Exhibition of Navajo and Pueblo Necklaces'.

‘Anyone who has been to the southwest of the USA can’t help but notice the abundance of beautiful silver and turquoise jewellery obtainable at every turn’ says joint the Silver Plume founder Tad Anderman.

 ‘To look at these amazing jewellery pieces by the Navajo and Pueblo tribes you would be surprised to learn that silversmithing within these tribes is not an ancient process and was only introduced to these Southwestern tribes less than 150 years ago. But the truly amazing aspect of their Native American jewellery creations is the speed and skill at which these Native American artisans picked up on the various processes, adapted them to suit their culture and tradition and truly made them their own.

‘Before the arrival of the Europeans there was no history of metal working within these Native tribes usually fashioning their most treasured personal jewellery, used as a form of portable wealth, from stone such as turquoise and seashells such as spiny oyster. When the Spanish introduced them to silver ornaments they began to incorporate these stones and seashells into silver jewelry to create these highly sought-after Native American necklaces.’
