By: http:www.SEO2Marketing.com ‘For one month and one month only we would like to invite you to explore an exclusive collection of Navajo textiles from the 1880 to the 1930s’ Says the Silver Plume gallery’s owner’ Tad Anderman. ‘‘The Navajo Indians or ‘Dine’ which they use to refer to themselves were once a nomadic race which can be traced all the way back to the Athabaskans who lived in Canada around 1300-1500 AD and so being completely nomadic the earliest documented form of weaving was in 1800 AD and was the first form of a chief’s blanket.’ explains Tad. ‘Early garments or Mantas were made by Navajo weavers along with Serope blanket during the 18th and 19th centuries, these Mantas were used as wrap-around dresses and fastened with a manta pin. Navajo weaving took on American and Hispanic influences after the return to their homelands from the ‘Long Walk’ in 1968 which is evident in the textiles we will have in our exhibition. ’ Located in the Double Bay area of Sydney, Australia, the Silver Plume gallery was opened in 2011 by Tad Anderman and Vickie Yorke. Tad loves nothing better than to share his knowledge and passion for Native American arts including contemporary and historic jewelry, pottery and textiles. Please join them on their opening night March 16th 6.00-9.00pm. For more details of the ‘Red Rug Earth’ exhibition at the Silver Plume Gallery Visit http://www.silverplumegallery.com.au/ End
