Protect from hacking and be alert on changes in your web content

Organisations can be protected against a chilling new threat where legitimate sites are hacked by pornographers and their sites used to host images of child sexual abuse.

LONDON - Aug. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- The Internet Watch Foundation charity has told BBC Radio Five Live it had received 227 reports about the sickening new trend over the last six weeks, with the websites of dozens of businessesInvolved.

The websites of large organisations can offer a tempting target to the hackers if site managers are unaware of what’s on their pages, and what links have crept in.

The Sitemorse software engine allows users of our services to protect themselves against hacking, with the ability to 'know' what’s on their pages, keeping a copy of what should be being delivered, allowing a regular check of what’s actually being delivered and then comparing  the content four times every hour.

Having a website hacked will damage your organisation’s brand, remove confidence in both the site and the brand, and this can have consequences across your entire organisation. There are many examples of organisations unwittingly hosting “phishing” attacks, where scammers look for users financial details, or where links to ‘malware’ unknowingly find their way onto hacked sites.

But the sinister new trend exposed by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has been on the rise for the past two months, often with the “worst of the worst” images of abuse uploaded surreptitiously to legitimate sites.

The charity said the attackers had created an "orphan folder" on the computers and then uploaded hundreds of offending images to it - effectively creating a new section on the retailer's website which was not linked to any of its other pages. Hackers then hijacked links on "adult" sites so that if a visitor clicked on one of the affected pornographic images or videos they would be directed to the offending material.

The IWF's technical researcher, Sarah Smith, said more than two dozen businesses across the world had had the servers they used compromised. Administrators of the sites involved might be unaware of the problem until someone complained, she added.

“For more than a decade, Sitemorse has helped organisations to build confidence in their online presence.” Said Sitemorse CEO, Lawrence Shaw.

“Our software-as-a-service platform allows clients to keep a watchful eye on their content on a 24/7 basis, protecting your online assets and reputation by continually monitoring and comparing what’s contained on key pages.

“The service operates much faster and more comprehensively than any manual form of testing, allowing website owners and managers peace of mind as well as freeing up their valuable time” he added.
