CONCORD, N.H. - Aug. 9, 2013 - PRLog --
Mitsubishi's all-new, completely redesigned crossover SUV, the 2014 Outlander (http://www.loveringmitsubishi.com/models/mitsubishi-outlander.htm), has been named a Top Safety Pick+ (http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=386) by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its strong performance in controlled crash tests. The seven-passenger Outlander, available now at Lovering Mitsubishi in Concord, delivers some of best safety features in the crossover class, including active stability and traction control as well as Mitsubishi's durable RISE body construction.

To earn a Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must obtain top marks in at least four out of five tested categories, with no less than a rating of “acceptable” in the fifth. The Outlander performed splendidly, scoring especially well in the new small overlap front test. A small overlap test simulates a crash in which only one corner of the front vehicle end meets an obstacle, such as a collision with a tree or pole. This is typically considered a very dangerous crash because of the small area of impact.

While many vehicles are not engineered to sustain such an impact, the Outlander Sport demonstrated an ability to keep the driver's compartment relatively intact, allowing passengers to escape the damaged vehicle. The effectiveness of the Outlander's frame is thanks to the engineering decision to construct the frame with high-tensile steel, a material that is both stronger and lighter than previous materials.

Safety is not only a reactive game, of course, but a preventative one as well. A large array of preventative safety features work together to keep the Outlander and its passengers out of danger. The list of features includes:

    •     Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution

    •     The LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), allowing parents to easily strap in car seats

    •     A tire pressure monitoring system

    •     Hill start assist

In addition, the available Super All-Wheel Control AWD system allows you to select an appropriate driving style for the weather and road, a useful feature in harsh conditions like New England snowstorms.
