NEMT wins AHDI technology award

BANGOR, Maine - Aug. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- WOOLWICH, MAINE: On Aug. 1, the Maine-based medical transcription firm NEMT won the prestigious Innovation Through Technology award by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), the national clinical documentation organization.

The industry’s top technology award recognizes a company for raising the bar when it comes to technology standards in the industry. CEO and owner Linda Sullivan was on hand at AHDI’s national convention (ACE 2013) in Florida where the award was announced.

“This is a huge honor for our company,” she said. “We’ve been dedicating tremendous resources to ensuring that we are always on the cutting edge of clinical documentation and this award confirms our efforts and success.”

The Innovation Through Technology nomination is due in part to NEMT’s externship program, which provides transcription students with early training and preferential hiring. The firm’s IT Department, led by Director Andrew Clarke, has taken the leading role in the project.

Since 2011, 49 students in six different schools have completed the program, which is a technology-based, distance learning externship that gives students real-world experience transcribing reports for real doctors and hospitals. In early 2013, the NEMT team, led by Clarke and President Linda Allard, CHPS, began expanding the program by partnering with ChartNet Technologies to provide speech recognition training to students as well.

“Everyone has been involved but Andrew has done all the heavy lifting on the technology side,” said Allard. “We’re the only company in the industry offering free speech recognition training to students and it’s Andrew’s know-how and dedication that have made it possible.”
