Aug. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- WOOLWICH, MAINE:  NEMT President Linda Allard will be one of the featured presenters this weekend at the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity's Annual Convention and Expo in Indianapolis.
Allard is a nationally-known presenter who has spoken previously for conventions and webinars.
During AHDI's national conference, ACE, she will join SpeedType CEO Betsy Ertel and Sheridan Technical Center instructor Paula Goode in advising other transcription companies and schools on how to start and manage a student externship program.
“NEMT’s externship program is an innovative new way of bringing together students, teachers and companies to help give students real-world experience without putting an undue burden on companies and managers,” Allard said. “We presented our overview last year at ACE as we were getting the program off the ground and this year, we plan to offer practical tips and troubleshooting advice.”
The NEMT Collaborative Externship Model was developed by Allard, Ertel and Goode to give more students internship experience without giving extra duties to transcription managers. Under this model, transcription companies provide students with HIPAA testing, sample audio files and account specs but it is the teachers, not the company personnel, who grade and correct each report.
“After more than a year and several externship sessions, we know what works and what doesn’t,” Allard said. “We’re eager to share our experience with other companies and teachers to help this program grow so more students can make the transition smoothly to become transcription professionals.”
The presentation, “Practice Makes Perfect – Practical Tips for Creating Externships,” begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. Single-day passes are still available online at www.ahdionline.org.
