PRLog -- Urban landscape architect, Thomas R. Doolittle, ASLA, best known for his work on large infrastructure projects such as Boston’
s Central Artery/Tunnel Project, has joined Kleinfelder, a global architecture, engineering and science consulting firm, as a principal professional in the firm’s transportation practice group. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the planning, design, and implementation of complex urban infrastructure projects, particularly on streetscapes and corridors, and has extensive experience developing and leading public participation processes for his projects.
In his new position, Doolittle will act as a senior technical advisor for Kleinfelder’s urban design projects. He will be based out of the firm’s Cambridge, Mass., office.
“Tom’
s project management, landscape architecture, urban design and planning expertise builds upon our current planning and design skills and projects in the northeast,”
says Andrea d’Amato, Kleinfelder’s transportation segment manager. “
His current assignment at the MBTA working on transit-oriented development will enhance our position with our client in this market as well as our qualifications to continue to grow an urban design, planning and architecture practice.”
Prior to joining Kleinfelder, Tom led and contributed to numerous complex projects which reshaped cities throughout the Northeast. During that time, he spent five years working on Boston’
s Central Artery/Tunnel Project; was the principal-in-
charge for the reconstruction of Vassar Street for Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge; and led the development of the corridor master plan and landscape development plans for the Maumee River Crossing project in Toledo, Ohio.
Since 2010, Tom also served as an owner’
s project manager to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA). Working under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) program, he led the design and implementation of several projects for the T’s commuter rail system, and also managed the preliminary design, design/build contract procurement, and final design and construction of the Revere Transit Facility and Streetscape Project.
Tom is a licensed landscape architect in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and is a LEED Accredited Professional for Building Design and Construction. He holds two bachelor’
s degrees, a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design, both from Ball State University. He is very active in the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) both at the local and national levels, and was recently elected vice president of government affairs for the national organization.
