MINES ParisTech Selects Bright Cluster Manager for Materials Science Research Cluster

SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Bright Computing, the leading, vendor-independent provider of management solutions for clusters and clouds, announced today that MINES ParisTech has selected Bright Cluster Manager® to provision, monitor and manage its HPC cluster. The MINES ParisTech HPC cluster is comprised of existing and new IT resources that span two, physically distinct sites interconnected via a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). Using Bright, these resources are collectively delivered as a single HPC cluster to researchers in materials science.

Based on requirements articulated by MINES ParisTech, Bright Computing partner transtec designed and implemented an HPC cluster that added over 650 cores for general-purpose HPC, as well as large-memory and GPU nodes. Through use of Bright Cluster Manager, transtec transparently extended MINES ParisTech’s existing HPC environment to seamlessly incorporate the additional AMD cores and NVIDIA Tesla GPU. Even though the existing and new HPC resources span two sites separated by about 3 kilometers, Bright allows the MINES ParisTech IT team to manage the entire environment as a single HPC cluster. More importantly, this consolidated environment appears as a single HPC resource to MINES ParisTech researchers and their collaborators.

Researchers at MINES ParisTech collaborate nationally and internationally within the materials-science community. By emphasizing close ties between physical and numerical experiments, the MINES ParisTech approach has resulted in the Z-set materials science and structural analysis suite that is used by researchers in universities, government laboratories and private industry. The extended HPC cluster is a key enabler for MINES ParisTech researchers. The recent enhancements, featuring use of Bright Cluster Manager as a primary component of the solution, will ensure that MINES ParisTech researchers will be able to derive the greatest value from the organization’s ongoing investment in HPC.
