Shrujan to Exhibit 16 Different Styles Of Embroidery at Art & Sari Exhibition from Kutch

DELHI, India - July 5, 2013 - PRLog -- : This year at the annual exhibition of Art & Saree Exhibition from Kutch, of Shrujan, a 44 year old organization customers will find an eclectic mix of traditional embroidery on contemporary apparels, accessories and home furnishing, using traditional as well as contemporary fabrics

The Exhibition will be held at the Aga Khan Hall, 6, Bhagwandas Road, Sarojini House, Near Supreme Court, New Delhi on 20 July 2013 to 25 July, 2013 between between 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

“Our designers, this time, have also played with some unconventional cuts and fabrics, while keeping the soul of the embroidery alive” said Mrs Chandaben Shroff, founder of Shrujan.

The Exhibition of 16 distinct styles of Kutchi embroidery, each with its own lexicon of stitches and motifs enable Shrujan to help the Kutch Women earn a dignified livelihood. Shrujan works  for the uplifment of Kutch embroidery.

“A special focus has been given to younger customers through tops, dresses and bags range fashioned with the younger interpretation of Shrujan embroidery and use of unusual prints & other surface ornamentation techniques” she further added.

The exhibition will showcase original hand embroidered fabrics that 3,500 craftswomen living in 120 remote villages of Kutch have fashioned into high quality products which include Saris, Kurtas, Dupattas, Tops, Tunics, Quilts, Wall Hangings, Bags, cushion covers and many more.

Shrujan  Crafts, garments , accessories and lifestyle products are recognized for their product quality and authentic craft.  The exhibition in this process enables 9 communities that practice the Kutch style,

Craftswomen who are part of the Shrujan family work from home. Their rural way of life is not disturbed. Shrujan’s production team reaches the threads and fabrics to the craftswomen even in the remotest villages. The women do not have to pay for these materials. But they are paid for their skill and their time and that too right at their doorstep, as soon as they have completed the embroidery.

About Shrujan
Shrujan began modestly as a small project during the severe drought in Kutch in 1969. With the help of local women its founder Mrs Chandaben Shroff developed a unique sustainable means of income development by organising the local tribal women & community in the area to produce Saris with exclusive embroidery and lexicon of stitches and motifs unique to each of the 9 tribes in the region. The first exhibition was held in October 1969 I Mumbai. Shrujan currently works with 16 different styles of embroidery done by 3,500  women across 100 villages.
