Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation Welcomes Two New Council Members

As two Council members finish their term, new Council members are appointed to fulfill the roles of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN).

MILWAUKEE - July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Pamela Gordon duPont, MS, CCC-A, CPS/A and Elaine Brown, RN, BS, COHN,-S/CM, COHC, were recently appointed to serve as CAOHC® Council Members representing the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) respectively.  Both representatives will serve as Council members providing guidance on issues related to occupational hearing conservation, noise induced hearing loss, treatment and prevention of the accounted for 22 million workers who are exposed to potentially damaging noise each year (NIOSH, 2011).  

CAOHC is a professional organization dedicated to promoting hearing loss prevention by enhancing the quality of occupational hearing loss prevention practices. In addition to AAOHN and ASHA, the CAOHC Council consists of representatives from the following organizations: American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), Military Audiology Association (MAA), Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the United States of America (INCE/USA), American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), and American Academy of Audiology (AAA).

Pamela Gordon duPont, MS, CCC-A, CPS/A, is President and Founder of Gordon Hearing Conservation, Inc. Ms. duPont has been a CAOHC Course Director since 1977. In addition, she was a professor at the University Of Connecticut Graduate School Of Communication Disorders. Ms. duPont began her term as a representative of ASHA in early 2013.

Elaine Brown, RN, BS, COHN-S/CM, COHC, is an Occupational Health Nurse – North American Seeds at the Fortune 500 Company: Monsanto. Ms. Brown has been an item writer for CAOHC and the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses. She is a past Director of the North Central Region of AAOHN. Ms. Brown recently began her term as a representative of AAOHN in mid 2013.

duPont and Brown will serve as Council members for up to five years, with an opportunity to renew their term. Both will collaborate in leadership decisions with the full Council to continue CAOHC’s efforts in promoting and enhancing occupational hearing conservation programs throughout the nation. The Council and executive office values the time, dedication, and motivation that are provided by each member to CAOHC.
