MURPHY, N.C. - June 26, 2013 - PRLog -- "What would we know if we didn’t know anything?" M. Kaat Toy’s new flash fiction book, Disturbed Sleep, asks. The answer? "More than we do now." These fifty-four stories overheard, transcribed, experienced, invented, and inspired by myths, tales, literature, history, and research provide original perspectives on the facts of everyday life and the possibilities of alternate realities. Grouped in six themed sections, they depict the natural world, relationships, and spirituality in lyrical prose.

With Disturbed Sleep, FutureCycle Press ventures out from its well-regarded contemporary poetry line to publish its first flash fiction collection by a single author. M. Kaat Toy (the pen name of Katherine Toy Miller) has an M.F.A. (creative writing–fiction) from the University of Arizona and a Ph.D. in English (creative writing–fiction) from Florida State University. A chapbook of her prose poems, In a Cosmic Egg, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2012. She has completed a collection of short stories and three novels and has published novel selections, short stories, flash fiction, prose poetry, and creative nonfiction. She also publishes and presents scholarly narratives on D. H. and Frieda Lawrence, Aldous Huxley, and Georgia O’Keeffe, mutual friends who lived briefly in Taos, New Mexico, a tricultural community that is the author’s permanent residence.
