June 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Following the success of its Xperia Z flagship, Sony fans have been eagerly anticipating the next high-end device from the Japanese manufacturer. While the company has been busy in the last few months releasing a number of new entry level and mid range devices in its Xperia line up of Android phones, there have recently been plenty of rumours that Sony Mobile will be entering the increasingly popular phablet market.

Of course, the phablet niche is currently dominated by devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which boasts a 5.5 inch display, S-Pen stylus and powerful quad-core processor making it the most versatile devices on the market. With millions of sales under its belt, a number of other manufacturers there followed suit and released their own phablet devices. Sony is yet to release such a phone, but it looks like a new larger Xperia phone is on the way. Rumours of the Sony Xperia ZU:

GSM Arena has recently reported that Sony has sent out invites to a press event scheduled to take place in Paris on July 4th. It is expected that the event will be used to unveil the company’s rumoured upcoming phablet which is currently codenamed as the Togari. The website reports that the device is likely to be released as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Bestselling XperiaZ deals: http://www.phoneslimited.co.uk/sony/xperia+z.html

This clearly suggests that the phone will follow the same format as its current flagship phone, but will of course see a larger screen and several upgraded features. Rumoured features of the phone include a huge 6.44 inch display with a 1080p high definition resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 16 GB expandable storage, 2 GB of RAM but a downgraded 8 megapixel camera. The phone is expected to run Android 4.2 Jellybean as its operating system of choice.

Invitations to the phone’s unveiling do not reveal too much about the phone, but shows a side view of the device which appears to sport an extremely thin profile and a dedicated camera button.

Such a high profile smartphone is likely to see many more rumours in the coming weeks, so we will keep you updated with the latest news.
