IIHS lecture series on Shaping the Urban Future

EAST OF KAILASH, India - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Bangalore, June 6, 2013: Indian Institute for Human Settlements (http://www.iihs.co.in/) (IIHS), a national education institution, has announced the fourth lecture of its series on Shaping the Urban Future in association with Swissnex, a global network of science and technology units run by Switzerland’s State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation in close co-operation with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Prof. Jean-Claude Bolay, Director of the Cooperation and Development Centre at EPFL and Professor at the Faculty of Natural, Architectural and Built Environment will deliver the fourth lecture of the series on the topic Sustainable Development and Urban Transformation: Lessons learned and Perspective on June 7th 2013. The session will be held at the IIHS City Campus, Bangalore.

The lecture series comprises of seven sessions by various Swiss experts and will continue till February 2014. The lectures will focus on the challenges related to the global urbanisation process and its implications for India. The lecture on Friday will focus on urban growth primarily in developing countries where population move from rural to urban regions at a very fast pace.

India's urban population is set to reach to about 800 million by the middle of the 21st century. This will be more than just an economic transition; the effects of urbanisation will resonate within Indian society, culture, politics and environment. The lecture series will help participants to understand and reflect on the global urbanisation trends. The lecture series will also provide participants the opportunity to interact with Swiss experts and gain insights on various topics related to urbanisation.
