HOUSTON - June 3, 2013 - PRLog -- After retiring from Chevron, Jim will provide consulting services and thought leadership in the area of data management for Oil and Gas companies exclusively as a member of the Noah Consulting team. While spending the last 37 years at Chevron, most recently as the senior advisor in the Global Upstream IT organization, Jim stacked up a truly impressive list of accomplishments, starting with exploration projects in Wyoming, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Utah and technical positions in seismic processing.  Jim went on to work an Exploration and Equity Determination Development project in the UK and Danish North Sea, where he became the geophysical coordinator for the UK exploration group. Following the Chevron and Gulf merger, Jim returned to the States to serve in various roles such as district supervisor of the Colorado Plateau District, division manager for upstream technical support in Chevron Petroleum Technology Company, assistant to the Exploration vice president, and division geophysicist for the Frontier Division. One of the many highlights of Jim’s work was his role as E&P data management and workstation interpretation support, leading one of the largest desktop PC standardization projects ever done at Chevron that encompassed the entire North American upstream operating company. This project culminated in him being named as the North American Upstream IT manager in 1995. Jim also led the IT Merger Integration Organization study team in 2001 as part of the Chevron & Texaco merger. His team developed the IT organization structure and IT strategic direction for the corporation, for which he received a President's Award.

In 2002, Jim Crompton was named a Chevron Fellow in acknowledgement of his contributions in applications of information technology to business problems and in working to develop industry standards in electronic data exchange. He served as the chair of the Fellows Network from 2006-2008.

Outside of his work for Chevron, Jim was elected chair of the general committee of Petroleum Industry Data Exchange (PIDX) where he was able to influence the direction of the standards setting activities towards emerging technologies, such as XML, and advanced electronic business models to complement the established EDI practices in the industry.  He was selected to participate in the SPE Distinguished Lecturer Program for 2009-2010.
