A new website has launched which provides expert information and a directory for traditional building owners and renovation companies.  As a community contributed resource, specialist contractors and tradesmen can write and submit articles which inform and educate owners of listed and period buildings. Ironically the websites founders are based in the new town of Milton Keynes, though they do know a thing or two about traditional building.

Michael Sheppard who co-founded the website is an ICON accredited building conservator who restores and renovates buildings and historic structures nationwide for clients such as English Heritage with his team at Inspire Conservation ltd.  Reviewing available marketing channels he and his partner Simon Henry, SEO marketing manager, decided that enough was enough with high priced marketing for little return.  Keen to offer something of value to other businesses in the traditional building profession, the Traditional Building Directory ( http://traditionalbuilding.co/ ) was created to set apart from other commercially driven directories and to provide key information for historic building owners and contractors for free.  Features include:

·       •  Online forum available to all members (post questions and get help from experts)

·        • Expert articles

·        • Directory of specialist suppliers and contractors

·       •  Classifieds

·      •  Property for sale (historic buildings)

·       •  Job board for conservators and trades people

Michael comments “I have always had a passion for the built environment and it is a shame that some companies are not so willing to share information and valued research to the wider community without charging such a heavy premium.  I think that the people who work so hard to produce this information, in what is already a demanding professional environment, should be able to share freely and gain value from their work.  We provide a great resource to home owners who need a helping hand with their properties which, let’s face it, is normally their largest financial investment.  This is a time when everyone needs a step up, not another fee or unnecessary bill with little return”

There are free and affordable paid subscriptions available giving subscribers a choice.  The premium packages do offer really good benefits such as user reviews, a map on the listing and a SEO review to help businesses appear in search engines for their chosen keywords.  We feel we provide far more than alternatives and by giving free access to resources such as a basic directory listing, article submission and full access to the forum we really do go the extra mile in helping people succeed.  We essentially need good companies to thrive if we are to retain high quality traditional skills in the UK, which is what we have set out to achieve.
