U.S. Mohair Producer Urges Americans to Buy Fashions Made in America

Pure American Naturals (PAN) principal says consumers should ‘check the label’ before deciding to purchase a garment.

HARRISBURG, Pa. - May 24, 2013 - PRLog -- It’s getting harder and harder for American consumers to find clothes that aren’t made in unsafe factories overseas, CNN recently reported, as all but 2 percent of clothes sold in the United States are made abroad.

The issue is gaining attention as of late due to the deadly accidents in Bangladesh garment factories. The country is the third biggest exporter of apparel to the United States, CNN noted.

Glen Cauffman, principal of the Pennsylvania-based Pure American Naturals (PAN), finds this to be “appalling” and said factories like those involved in the accidents wouldn’t exist if more U.S. consumers would buy American-made fashions.

“While the ‘Made in America’ movement is gaining traction, many shoppers still choose to buy their garments at retailers like Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Sears and other retailers who have their clothing made overseas,” Cauffman said. “It’s important that more American consumers become aware of this issue and ‘check the label’ of any piece of clothing they are thinking about purchasing.”

“By checking the label”, Cauffman said, “you’ll be able to see whether the garment was made in America or in another country.”  He further expounded that the importance of purchasing American-made clothes helps to support our country’s businesses and helps to keep American workers employed.

PAN is pushing forward the “Check the Label” mindset even further by giving complete traceability to all its mohair-made products with a specially-generated QR code. The QR code, which can be scanned on any smartphone or mobile device with a QR reader app installed, tells consumers the entire history of the piece of clothing, right down to the farmers who produced the mohair yarn.

“The QR codes on PAN clothing give a history like never before,” Cauffman said. “You will be able to see everyone who was involved in producing the piece of clothing in question.”

Cauffman believes the unique approach PAN is taking will someday become commonplace, as more Americans begin to buy purely American products and want to hold companies and fashion producers accountable.

“This is a cultural movement toward sustainable, traceable, renewable and green fashion design,” Cauffman said. “We hold ourselves accountable to any and everyone who even looks at a PAN-made product.”
