Garagedoorcare.com offers some valuable safety tips. “Keep your garage door properly maintained to keep it operating safely. Annual maintenance by a trained service technician is recommended.”
Their website also advises that fingers and hands should be kept away from the door sections when the door is opening or closing, and warns that the door should be kept in view until it is fully opened or closed. “Make certain that no adults, children or animals try to enter or exit while the door is closing.”
“Never attempt to repair a garage door’s springs or cables.” The website continues, “These are under extreme tension and can cause severe injury or even death. These are best repaired by a trained service technician.”
Damian Douglass Garage Doors, a garage door repair and replacement company located in Las
Vegas, offers high quality garage door replacement and services. They recommend periodic routine inspections and professional installation of a new garage door in order to help ensure garage door safety.
“Garage door safety is important, though it’s an often forgotten part of home maintenance.”
To help prevent accidents, Damian Douglas Garage Doors offers these maintenance tips for helping ensure your garage is operating safely and smoothly. “Make sure you inspect the condition of the door; including springs, rollers and cables, to ensure your door is in proper working order. Make sure the emergency release lever is also working.”
Additionally, it is recommended that a garage door’s reverse mechanism is tested monthly.
Damian Douglass offers this advice for testing this mechanism. “Test the garage door’s reversing mechanism by placing a roll of paper towels under the door. When the door hits the paper towel roll, it should automatically reverse. If door doesn’t reverse, disconnect it until it can be professionally serviced.” This test ensures that the door will reverse in the case of an obstruction, minimizing the chance of an accident.
When it comes to garage door safety, you can never be too careful. Regular inspections and maintenance, professional installation and annual professional inspections, as well as following basic safety protocols are vital for accident prevention.
