Pasadena Community Orchestra Honored with Pasadena Showcase House of Design Grant

Young Artist competition winner, Tianpeng Yu to play Chopin Piano Concerto with the PCO
 
PASADENA, Calif. - May 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA – The Pasadena Community Orchestra was honored with an underwriting grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts Wednesday, May 1 during their Gifts and Grants Reception at the 2013 House of Design - a 1941 Roland Eli Coates Sr. Estate. The PSHA is an all-volunteer organization whose main objective is to support and raise funds for youth music education & the LA Philharmonic Orchestra.

Funds from the grant allow the PCO orchestra to showcase emerging local talent in the annual Young Artist Concert May 17, 2013. This year, the PCO is pleased to present 22-year old pianist, Tianpeng Yu, who will be performing Chopin’s Concerto No. 1 in E minor, May 17, 2013, 8pm, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena. Additional supporters of the Young Artist Concert include the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division.

Pasadena Community Orchestra (PCO) is a non-profit organization supported by donations from individuals and companies that recognize the importance of continuing the great tradition of music in the community for both players and performers. About the Young Artists’ Competition
The Pasadena Community Orchestra conducts an annual competition to identify, assist and feature talented young musicians in the furtherance of their musical career and education. The winner of the competition will appear as a Guest Soloist with the Pasadena Community Orchestra and receive a $500 cash award. Musicians between the ages of 16 to 25 years old are eligible to submit an application. About Tianpeng Yu
Born in Shantou, China, 22-year old pianist Tianpeng Yu has already been the prizewinner of many national and international competitions. Born into a musical family Tianpeng Yu began playing the piano at the age of 4. In 2002 he began studying at the Shenzhen Arts School with the renowned Professor Dan Zhaoyi, and Chen Guanquan. He then continued his studies at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, studying piano with Mr. Nelms McKelvain. Tianpeng Yu was the 1st prizewinner of the Steinway Society of Riverside County Piano Competition, The 1st ASEAN Piano Concerto Competition in Indonesia, The 5th International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia and the Hong Kong Asia Piano Open Competition among others. In 2009 Tianpeng won the first prize at the Spotlight Awards Competition in Los Angeles, his performance of the Chopin Fantasy was broadcasted on national television. Yu has performed with the members of the Poland Philharmonic, the Indonesia’s National Philharmonic, The Shenzhen Philharmonic and the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra. Today Tianpeng Yu is a Performance Diploma candidate at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California, where he studies with John Perry.
