TrailAPI Outdoor Recreation Database Hits 17,000 Location Milestone

May 1, 2013 - PRLog -- TrailAPI has just reached a major milestone with 17,000 outdoor recreation locations cataloged and shared via a free application programming interface (API). The API includes access to information about hiking and biking trails, campgrounds, ski resorts, and water sports areas throughout the US and Canada.

"We're really excited to hit 17,000 locations just in time for spring," says TrailAPI founder Jeff Barber. "The more locations we add, the more we realize we're really just scratching the surface of what's available to outdoor enthusiasts in North America."

Users of the TrailAPI service can incorporate information about any of the featured recreation areas--including photos, GPS coordinates, and descriptions--into their website or mobile app.

"We've spent more than a decade crowdsourcing information on activities liking camping, hiking, and mountain biking and wanted to share this amazing resource with everyone," says Jeff. "This is a really great data set for anyone from non-profits to boards of tourism to outdoor retailers looking to help their customers get connected with great recreation opportunities."

The http://www.TrailAPI.com database is continuously updated with the latest information collected via various outdoor websites including Singletracks.com and Tripleblaze.com. This spring and summer the database will continue to add about 800 new recreation areas per month.

TrailAPI is a service of Blue Spruce Ventures, a company based in Decatur, GA that owns and operates online communities, web applications, and smartphone apps.
