July 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Just in time for the summer season, Singletracks.com releases its list of the top 10 mountain bike trails in the state of California. All of these trails made it into the nation’s top 100, with four trails also breaking into the top 50. The best bike trails are ranked based on visitor ratings and reviews that have been collected continuously since 1999.

Evenly spread between the coast and inland, this top 10 lists showcases the variety that California mountain biking has to offer. Intense downhills with plenty of freeriding landed the Forest of Nisene Marks and Soquel Demonstration Forest in the number 1 spot. Another top 10 trail, Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa, offers fast downhills and technical singletracks for the advanced. Camp Tamarancho, just north of San Francisco, boasts narrow switchbacks and rock gardens that will leave any mountain biker satisfied.

Inland trails have plenty to boast about as well with trails like the Downieville Downhill, which consists of 17 miles of advanced singletrack, mainly downhill, with a 5000 foot vertical drop. Waterfalls, creek crossings, and long suspension bridges helped Downieville secure the number 2 spot. The Tahoe Rim Trail is also a worthy piece of singletrack with 165 miles of ridge top trails that span 6 counties and 2 states.

Singletracks founder, Jeff Barber highly recommends the Northstar Resort in Truckee, saying that it’s a “great place to ride DH for everyone from complete beginners to pros. Sign up for DH 101 if you've never tried downhill riding before, otherwise hit the lifts and ride down! My fave has to be Live Wire because it's so fast and flowy.”

The majority of these trails are free and open to the public. Shuttles are available in certain locations for a small fee. There is at least one private trail, Camp Tamarancho, which requires a small donation for riding the trails.
