CAT 2013 dates announced; 20 days test window begins on Oct 16

NOIDA, India - May 1, 2013 - PRLog -- The Indian Institute of Management Indore has announced the dates for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013, declaring the test will be held in a 20 days window between October 16 and November 11, 2013. Registration for the same will begin on July 29.

“The CAT for 2013 will be held in a 20 days window beginning October 16 at a total of 40 centres across India,” said IIM-Indore Professor Rohit Kapoor who is the convenor for CAT 2013 (http://www.mbauniverse.com/mba-exam-preparation/mba_exam_preparation.php).

Four new test centres – Surat, Udaipur, Trivendrum and Vijaywada, have been added for CAT this year.

The voucher sale for the CAT 2013 will begin from July 29 and the same will close on September 24, 2013 at selected Axis bank branches across India. According to Prometric, the agency which will conduct the computer-based CAT on behalf of all the 13 IIMs, the candidates can register for the test online until September 26.

The dates for CAT 2103 has been announced more than 160 days in advance which gives much more time for MBA aspirants to register and prepare for the same as compared to CAT 2012 when the test dates were announced just 84 days in advance.

The CAT scores are the gateway to the admission for MBA Aspirants to most coveted Indian Institute of Management and other top B-schools in the country including FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, JBIMS, IMT etc. The number of CAT 2012 applicants was 2.14 lakh, an increase of 9,000 compared to CAT 2011 numbers.

Question break up –  RC- 4 passages, each question with five close choices, Grammar, sentence completion, parajumbles; Algebra, Arithmetic=60% Geometry, Modern Math  were relatively less time-consuming but were reasoning based and required clarity in fundamental concepts. There were some questions on Data Sufficiency which were tough and confusing in nature.

Year 2008:

Total No of Qs- 90

Difficulty level - Difficult
Question break up – RC-4 passages(20 questions), Fill in the blanks, sentence correction, Vocabulary, Grammar;  Quant had more Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry

Year 2009:

Difficulty level - Moderate
Question break up - Sentence rearrangement, Grammar, comprehension, correction of errors, sentence completion, Usage Vocabulary;  Number System, Algebra, Mensuration, and Commercial Math.

Year 2010:

Quant- 20
Difficulty level - Moderate to difficult-
Question break up - RC, Grammar, Parajumbles, sentence correction & completion; Quant was tougher compared to CAT 2009. The areas were more calculation intensive and needed conceptual understanding.
