KAI Texas Welcomes Derwin Broughton to Design Team as Project Architect

DALLAS - April 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX (www.KAITexas.com) – Derwin Broughton, AIA, joins KAI Texas’ design team as a Project Architect. Having over 13 years of experience in the built-design industry performing in various project management and business development capacities, Broughton’s award-winning leadership endeavors in the design-built industry will help further KAI’s role in elevating architecture and the built environment.

         Broughton’s previous project experience includes design activities in various civic, religious, and commercial architecture venues in Texas and Oregon. A registered architect, Broughton holds a Bachelor of Science in Design degree, graduating with Honors from Clemson University in South Carolina, his home state. He was recently recognized by the American Institute of Architects (http://www.aia.org) (AIA) as a 2013 Young Architects Award winner because of his passion for architecture and his numerous leadership roles in addressing the needs of emerging professionals within the design-built industry.          Broughton was also one of 11 architectural professionals nationwide to be spotlighted during National Architecture Week, a public awareness campaign sponsored by AIA and dedicated to increase awareness of the roles that architects hold to augment positive change within communities.

After moving to Texas, Broughton served from 2010-2011 as President of the Dallas Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (DaNOMA), an organization dedicated to fostering communications among minority architects and fighting discriminatory practices. Broughton’s other professional leadership roles include: Chairman of the Dallas AIA Young Architects Forum (2012-2013); Texas Architect’s Career Builder’s Committee (2012-2013); 2012 Emerging Professional Roundtable in Austin, Tx; 2011 Dallas AIA Emerging Leaders Program; and 2011 Texas Architect’s Convention Planning Committee. He is also a member of the Texas Society of Architects.
