When I Grow Up, I Want to Manufacture Polyurethane Products

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. - April 17, 2013 - PRLog -- President and CEO Dale Burgett of Sunray, Inc. was kind enough to take a few minutes away from running his company (as it fulfills orders for polyurethane wheels, rollers, and manufactures custom polyurethane products) to answer a few interview questions and shed some light on what it’s like working in the polyurethane industry.

Net Site Marketing: When you were a kid you probably dreamed of being a super hero or an astronaut, but did you ever say to yourself, “When I grow up, I want to manufacture polyurethane products”?

Dale Burgett
: My ambitions when I was a child were to be a doctor, a pilot or a cattle rancher.

Net Site Marketing: Running a business, the workday probably doesn’t just stop when you leave the office. Have you ever gone to sleep at night dreaming about polyurethane?

Dale Burgett: I don’t dream a lot but when I do, I always hope to never dream that again!

Net Site Marketing: What are some of the more unusual product requests you’ve received over the years?

Dale Burgett:  We had a customer phone in once that said our product had failed; after looking up his record I commented to the gentleman from West Virginia that it had been 5 years since we made the wheels for him.  He said yes, and one of them failed.  I said sir, if in good conscience you feel our wheel failed after being in service for 5 years I will rework the wheel at no charge, and he sent it in to be reworked.

Net Site Marketing: We understand that polyurethane drive wheels and rollers are two of your most requested products, but that Sunray can produce an unlimited variety of custom polyurethane parts as well. Can you give us some examples of where your products are used, that most people may not even realize?

Dale Burgett:  We are constantly amazed at how and where our product is used.  Our product is used to lay sea floor cable, to clean the sides of ships, on a mouse ride at a large amusement park, on carnival rides and roller coasters.  We have made seals for the sight glass on a U2 spy plane.  We make parts for the mining industry, recreation industry and aerospace industry, military, material handling and more.  Sunray’s wheels and rollers move items during manufacture such as glass, wire, roofing shingles, munitions, aircraft and automobiles.  We manufacture items less than an inch in diameter to over 48 inches in diameter.

Net Site Marketing: What is your favorite thing about working in the polyurethane industry?

Dale Burgett: We love the challenge of problem solving.  When an engineer phones and says, “This is my problem, what can you do”!  We developed a polyurethane compound for a stacker wheel application used in flat panel wide screen TV manufacturing.  Very demanding as the process was 24/7, and our wheels had to last a minimum of 2 years.  They have now been running well over 4 years.  “These are my speeds and loads, and I can’t find a product to last,” is another comment we hear often, and we find it very satisfying to solve our customers’ problems, such as these.
