Plumb Center responds to drought warnings

SALISBURY, U.K. - April 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Millions of UK householders are being urged to watch their water usage, for fear of a drought.

Leading water companies Thames, South East and Anglican, are encouraging their customers to use water wisely, because – according to Thames Water - Britain is never “more than 18 months of very dry weather away from a drought”.

And Plumb Center’s Renewables Director Simon Allan, agrees that, despite the recent long spells of wet weather, using less water is still essential.

“Water efficiency is as important now as it’s ever been,” said Simon. “On average Britain uses 150 litres per person, per day which is an astonishing figure when basic household requirements are estimated at 50 litres per person, per day.

“Prices are on the rise with the average bill now £388 (BBC), but through simple and inexpensive methods we can save ourselves some cash and avoid hosepipe bans.”

Energy efficiency can range from simple measures like fitting water saving taps and showerheads, to rainwater harvesting which collects and filters rain for use in the home, and Simon thinks it’s important for installers to get this message across.  

“More and more householders are looking to plumbing professionals for advice on how to reduce water wastage and drive their bills down.”

“This time last year we were issued with a ban because of the hot weather and just because there’s been plenty of rain this year it doesn’t mean that we can forget about how much water we use.”
