By: Motor Werks Honda Honda has tested this app, which currently uses a smartphone mounted on the windshield of the test car, in Jakarta, Indonesia, several times over the last year. The system could probably be integrated easily into existing Honda vehicles (http://www.motorwerkshonda.com/ Honda tested two different kinds of systems. In the first, drivers were given the smartphone with the app installed, but it worked based only on information it gathered with the phone’s camera. In the second, the app connected to all the other phones via a central server. The latter would detect how traffic was moving based on information from all the vehicles and advise each driver accordingly. These tests in Jakarta delayed the result of a traffic jam by as much as three to four minutes and resulted in improved fuel economy by as much as 20% to 22%.
