The Business of Me and The Temple of Understanding Piloted Successful Event at this Year’s CSW

NEW YORK - March 14, 2013 - PRLog -- On March 7, 2013 The Business of Me (TBOM) along with the Temple of Understanding (TOU) had the opportunity to hold an event at the UN for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The theme for this year’s CSW was: “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.” As various NGOs and UN Member States convened to discuss gender equality and to set global standards, TBOM offered a free, groundbreaking, actionable initiative to cooperating NGOs.

The initiative will test the efficacy of TBOM program, which is built on the premise that when women have financial competence and a strong support network of other women, battering is virtually non-existent. It is necessary to not only measure the program results but to also evaluate the programs feasibility, acceptability and preliminary proximal outcomes. With this initiative, it will become apparent if participants learned, if the learning changed their behavior, and if they are now safer as a consequence of the program.

Marie Norden, a Swedish social democratic politician and Ibrahim Ramey, an active board member of the Muslim Women Institute, joined TBOM CEO Nancy Salamone. Together, the trio discussed the costly negative effects of re-victimization in the emotional, economic and physical sense. Ms. Norden noted that Sweden enacted an “action plan” for victims of abuse in 2008; however, she made it clear that this does not help women rebuild their lives. According to Ms. Norden, it is “crucial to have a community of women helping other women.” In accordance, men were called on to become part of the solution, not the problem, which prompted Mr. Ramey to suggest a “week of mindfulness for men,” at next year’s CSW. With support from around the world, Ms. Salamone made it clear that now is the time to act. In order to protect the state of the global economy and the state of the world, we must band together to prevent violence and to stop the violence that is already occurring.

The Business of Me, LLC is a woman owned social change company that has adopted the standards of a “B Corp.” by incorporating into its bylaws the interests of societal stakeholders including employees, communities and the environment.
