The process of cleaning and decontaminating animal waste services is a process that should be performed by a professional if you are a bit unsure as to how to do it yourself. I am not trying to say you cannot do it yourself but my experiences has proven to me that most people are better off hiring a professional to remedy these issues correctly.

Here are the reasons why trying to do it yourself does not often work, based on my experiences working with property owners on cat and dog urine issues.

In detail the homeowner or property owner wants a quick fix and often screws-up the property more which makes my job as a professional way more difficult. I cannot advise it enough not to use bleach or other over the counter cleaners to try to get rid of the urine odor in a concrete floor. I have often arrived at a property to smell bleach and Kilz in a home, only to tell the homeowner there is not much I can do for them, they have screwed it up. The reasons – the concrete is saturated with bleach and water and can no longer absorb the correct cleaners and odor eaters, and the floor is sealed up so my cleaners and odor chemicals will not work. The customer often looks at you like you don’t know anything when it was them that made an issue way worse.

There is a process over 10 years that I have had great success with removing cat and dog urine odors. Dog odors are not bad and are typically easy to remove with a high degree of success. Cat urine is very acidic which eats through wood, flooring, cabinets, window sills, you name it- cat urine can damage it.

Cat urine odor removal in a nut –shell begins this way; remove all urine contaminated items and throw away, carpet/padding, furniture, etc. On a wood surface if you see black spots- that’s urine contamination the needs to be cut out, yep cut the wood out. This means replacing windows, cabinets, etc. When all the bad has been cut out, it’s time for odor treatment for the not-so bad areas, and this process can take 3-5 applications over 2 weeks. Once you the odors have been removed to the point of good, the remaining areas can be sealed-up, but this can take a month or so, since all surfaces need to be dry enough for the sealer to adhere and dry.

To sum up; if you are unsure hire a professional, I have seen to many people mess their homes up more by trying to save money and do it themselves. Do not use bleach, Natures Miracle or any pet store stuff, or try to seal it up when the odor is still present.
