As part of the ranch’s on-going commitment to their horses and those who purchase their stock, the ranch staff will share hands-on training methods, with clinic participants and spectators. These methods were brought to the Lazy K, by Tom Dorrance, years ago. The training techniques, will be the same methods used to start young horses for Lazy K’s yearly productions sale, as well as the horses that stay and work in the Lazy K remuda. “We employ over 150 saddle horses in our operation and because we raise our own replacements, at any given time there are 40 plus youngsters in training at the headquarters. Solid ground skills are the foundation of our program and during the clinic, participants will have an opportunity to see first hand some of the methods we use here on the ranch”, said Larry Knapp. Each participant will also have the opportunity to get help with specific issues they may be having with their equine partner. There will be a question and answer session where the audience can ask questions about what they have seen and learned, so they can take this knowledge home, and use when working with their horses. “We have a long-standing commitment to the horses we raise and sell, and we welcome the opportunity to help folks who buy our colts and fillies, develop a life-long relationship with their horses, through safe, effective and kind training methods,” said Nishma Knapp. The Lazy K Ranch, owned and operated by the Knapp family, has run cattle and horses in the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains for three generations.
