Feb. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- The American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) is pleased to announce that CBS 12 Anchor/Reporter, Michele Wright, will emcee the organization’s Hearts & “Soles” Fundraising Dinner event, on Tuesday, February 28, 2013.

According to Michele, "I have experienced personally and have seen in others the challenges families face when illness or disability strikes. It gives me joy to support caregiving youth in any way I can to make their lives a little better. As CNN Hero Connie Siskowski says, these kids are the real heroes."

While this is the 3rd Annual Hearts & “Soles” event, this year is a special HEROES Dinner, celebrating the recognition of the AACY Founder & President, Dr. Connie Siskowski, as one of the 2012 Top Ten CNN Heroes.  Connie was recognized by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and presented her award by Adrien Brody in the Heroes Tribute Show on December 2, 2012. The show was shown internationally multiple times.

There are many heroes in life. This year, there is an opportunity for donors to name their own Hero. Heroes will be recognized in the Program Book as well as in printed hearts displayed at the event.

AACY Board Chair Mark Hansen and Board Director Carlos Herrera are co-chairing the special event.  Adding fun to the evening is illusionist Gary Goodman.  Energetic Neil Saffer is the live auctioneer.  With a surprise donation, it will truly be a “live” auction!

AACY’s 3rd annual Hearts & “Soles” is scheduled for February 28, 2013 at Lakeside Terrace in Boca Raton. The theme Hearts and “Soles” in an effort to promote awareness of what it must be like to “walk in the shoes” of caregiving youth.  The event will include cocktails and dinner, music and AACY’s signature “Courage Awards” for caregiving youth who have candidly participated in local and national media coverage of AACY in furtherance of awareness for the cause.

A wide range of sponsorship opportunities for the event is available. Donated items for the silent auction and raffle would be greatly appreciated and formally recognized.  Event tickets are $50. Make your reservation today by calling Gerry at 561.391.7401.

Today it is the only organization of its kind in the United States for addressing the issues surrounding the silent, vulnerable and hidden population, conservatively estimated to exceed 1.4 million children, who provide care for ill, injured, elderly or disabled family members.  Its mission is to recognize, support, and promote the awareness of these youth that are both students and family caregivers.

AACY’s model program, the CYP, works in partnership with The School District of Palm Beach County and currently serves more than 500 caregiving youth and their families in 8 area middle schools and 17 high schools. CYP prioritizes students in greatest need of services and increases their ability to remain in school through counseling, education, activities and respite while strengthening families by linking them with community services.
