| ![]() How to Reduce Mill Tool Bit BeatBy: ASTECH CNC Tools During tooling machining, if router cutter center does not fit into the rotating center of wood router spindle, it will cause vertical tool beat, which is we often said: CNC tools rotating without concentric. Move forward to a deep understanding: So what can we do to reduce tool vertical beating while working? 1. First of all, we should make clear what factors affect cutter jump: 1) If engraving bits cooperate well with router collets. 2) If router collets join well with clamp nut. 3) Diamond tools are set up correctly or not. 4) Carving tools quality itself and so on. 2. In this aspect, we should pay more attention to: 1) Keep router collets and screw nuts clean, no dust. 2) Guarantee the force of flute endmill installation proper and equal, too big or too small is not good neither. 3) Very importantly, the exposed length of ball end mill should be short. 4) Notice CNC spindle rotate speed if necessary. If materials do not have high demand of spindle speed, for example, copper metal, we could choose a suitable revolving speed to lessen tool jump. 3. Second, how can we shorten tool beat when cutting? 1) Why cutter beating happened? The reason is the upright cutting forces intensify. So, decreasing upright cutting strength is an important principle. 2) Apply sharp cutting tools. The entire cutting force of sharp tool bit is small while machining, then cnc bits get smaller cutting power, as a result to cut down tools bounce. 4. Use milling cutters with big intensity. 1) To strengthen tools set intension, we can increase the shank diameter. 2) If shank size added 20%, receiving the same upright cutting force, the radial power of sintered bits can be cut 50%. 3) The front face of cnc cutters should be smooth. During processing, smooth surface can decrease cutting friction; also let the engraver carbide bits bear little cutting strength, accordingly lower tool beat. 4) While rough tooling machining, we need to use down milling. Otherwise, slotting cutter service life is hard to say. 5) While fine processing, up milling is required. However, it is only used in the finishing processed work. 6) For up milling slotting, the cut force direction is always pulling solid carbide end mills to work pieces, in this way, flute end mill is more stable when in process working.
