Thokku is a Tamil creation, from the Southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. The closest one can describe Thokku is as a cooked-down relish made with mainly fruits, vegetables and herbs. The flavors and cooking technique are unique to the product. Three initial varieties—tomato, tomato garlic, and cranberry—come in varied heat levels (medium, hot, and extra hot) to please different palates.
