Hip Hop Artist to Appear on Live Talk Show of the CatholicTV® Network

On Friday, January 11, 2013, Hip Hop artist Father Pontifex will appear on the CatholicTV Network’s nationally broadcasted live talk show; This is the Day.

Fr. Pontifex is a Roman Catholic priest who embraces the use of many different types of media to reach people with the message of Jesus Christ. Fr. Pontifex's real name is Fr. Claude Burns, a priest of the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana. The word Pontifex means "bridge builder", a name that Fr. Burns took as an icon for all priests and their role of building bridges between people and also to Christ.  

Fr. Pontifex began rapping at age 17 in 1989 in a rap group called The Agape Crew. He later on felt he was called to be a priest in the Catholic Church, and didn't rap for a while but kept up with hip hop music and the rest of the scene. In 2002 Pontifex was introduced to Dustin Sieber, a producer from Phatmass, a Catholic hip hop record label.

Ordained is the 1st full length Hip Hop album by Fr. Pontifex.  It was released on August 27th, 2011.  It is a very personal look at head and heart of Fr. Pontifex.  The Monstrance on the front cover is the icon that shows that the Eucharistic presence of Jesus is paramount in the life of Fr. Pontifex.  The lyrics are truly unique because they come from a priest’s perspective, which is certainly rare in the realm of Christian Hip Hop.

Fr. Pontifex attended Mundelein Seminary in Chicago and was ordained to the priesthood in May of 2002.  He currently serves as Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Evansville.
