Succeeding in College as a Christian and Student

Jan. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- (Encinitas, CA) TAKING THE LEAD®- HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PROGRAM. This new program is offered by Saint Katherine College to students planning to begin college in 2013. It is taught by experienced educators and college students who are very familiar with the challenges of faith and learning. Modular formats and teaching in small and large group discussions are utilized throughout the program. The modules include: college vocabulary, what to bring to college, dormitory life, course registration, working with a faculty advisor, roommates and getting along with others, finances and managing your money, work-study and working outside the campus, recreation and staying healthy, nutrition, weekend options, wealthy relationships with parents and siblings, study abroad, church attendance and community participation, Bible study and campus ministry, volunteerism, study habits, time management, and stress management.

These modules will equip participants with the skills and habits that will allow them to succeed in both Christian and secular colleges and universities.The program is limited to high school juniors and seniors. A course manual and study guide are provided to all of the participants.

Instructors

Isaiah Ray (Course Director) is the first graduate of Saint Katherine College. He will be joined by other students who have recently graduated from Christian and secular colleges and universities. In particular, college freshman who have completed their first year of studies, will add their experiences and learning to the program. Administrators and faculty (including clergy-faculty) from Saint Katherine College will actively participate in discussions.

Location

All sessions will be conducted at Saint Katherine College. College student housing will be used by program participants. Housing is located adjacent to the campus. The Director of Student Services will be available to participants and resides in student housing. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the program fee. Airport transportation will be coordinated through the College.

Dates

Three sessions are offered in 2013:

June 3- June 7

June 10- June 14

June 17-21

All sessions begin at 9am on the first session date with a welcome and orientation meeting on campus. The program concludes at noon on the final session date.

Program Fee

$500 (all sessions and materials, housing in same-sex dormitory, meals and refreshments); each student will also receive a copy of You Lost Me: Why Young Christians are Leaving the Church...and Rethinking Faith by David Kinnaman.
