Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- The IRMA entrance exam for the academic year 2013 is scheduled for this Sunday, November 11. After CAT, IRMA is the next MBA entrance exam scheduled for this month. This article of MBAUniverse.com will give you an overview of the exam and what to expect on the D-Day.

IRMA tests candidates in the areas of English comprehension, quantitative ability, analytical reasoning and issues of social concern. The last section is the differentiating factor compared with the other MBA entrance exams. The duration of the test is two hours. There are a total 200 questions. There is negative marking of one-fourth marks for each wrong answer. The overall difficulty level is easy to moderate. Let us now have a look at the section-wise pattern.

English comprehension

The English comprehension section will have 50 questions from this year. Till the last year, there used to be 40 questions. This section is a combination of reading comprehension and verbal ability. Questions on English usage are generally asked from sentence correction, para jumbles, cloze test, vocabulary, inference-based questions, fill in the blanks, appropriate phrases, synonyms & antonyms, sentence completion, grammar, etc.

Quantitative ability

The quantitative ability section has 50 questions. The important topics in this section are arithmetic, speed math, data interpretation and number series. Questions on speed math come from approximation. Arithmetic questions are on permutations & combination, probability, percentages, T&W, numbers, PPL, SI/CI, partnerships and ratio proportion. Data interpretation questions are from line graph, table and bar graph. The other question is on Venn Diagram.

Analytical reasoning

The analytical reasoning section is of the moderate difficulty level. This year onward, this section will have 60 questions instead of 50 in the previous years. The topics of this section are analogies, course of action, cause & effect, statements & assumptions, true & false, matrix, coding de-coding and data sufficiency.

Issues of social concern

The issues of social concern section will have 40 questions instead of 60 in erstwhile years. The difficulty level of the section is generally difficult. Questions are on government schemes, definition of terms, economies, agriculture, rural economy, personality & awards and poverty. This section needs more preparation than regular general awareness as questions here often judge India from the viewpoints of multi-lateral organizations such as the UN and the World Bank.

Though IRMA is going ahead with its entrance examination, it has also filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), over retaining its own MBA entrance exam. As per the Supreme Court verdict on July 10, 2012, for MBA admissions 2013-14, the five MBA entrance exam score which the B-schools can accept are Common Admission Test (CAT), Xavier Admission Test (XAT), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT, which has replaced the Common Entrance Test in most states), AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT which technically replaced Joint Management Entrance Test).
