Oct. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Say Bun dé! to Alta Badia. That’s Hello! in Ladin, the ancient language still spoken in this beautiful region of the Dolomite Mountains. For this is a land where customs and traditions are handed down from generation to generation – living testimony to a rural community at one with nature and the seasons of the year.

Say hello because now you, too, can share in this rustic idyll by staying at a unique farmhouse and taking part in the everyday life of the Ladin farming community.

The farmhouses that dot the beautiful countryside around each Viles, or Ladin village, are the hubs of fields and meadows that are still farmed traditionally. The herds of cows may move to higher pastures, or alps, in the summer, but all year round the Alta Badia Valley is alive with a wealth of unique customs and traditions linked to ancient times, from village festivals and folk dances to religious processions and farmers markets.

An example of this nestled amid the majestic mountain peaks, one such farm now open to guests is Lüch da Pcëi. This oasis perfectly blends the rustic simplicity of a traditional mountain farm with the modern luxuries of chalet living. Just three minutes from the village of San Cassiano in Alta Badia, a Unesco world heritage site, it is surrounded by a sun-glinting, snow-covered landscape.

At the heart of the agritourismo is a love for animals, passion for agriculture, healthy nutrition and sustainable food production. With such an organic and natural ethos, the enjoyment and wellbeing of every guest goes hand-in-hand with the protection of the environment.

Where else can you enjoy indulgently comfortable rooms, in a warm ambience of traditional furniture, fir wood – from which the farm takes its name – and homespun fabrics, with the attractions of a family-run farm . . . not forgetting, of course, world-class skiing?

In the winter months the villages and slopes of Alta Badia are transformed into a haven for wintersports enthusiasts with breathtaking ski-tours along the Sellarona and the Skicarosello Alta Badia and fabulous cross-country skiing through winter wonderland landscapes.

As a guest at an agritourismo you can also enjoy the very best in fine dining. In fact, good food is a passion in Alta Badia and central to your holiday experience. Start your day of skiing with a rich and healthy breakfast. You can choose from a wide and varied range of local cheeses, yoghurts, jams, fresh milk and a banquet of homemade delicacies.

In the evening there can be few places to satisfy an après-piste appetite than at Restaurant La Sieia. Within walking distance, this popular meeting point in the heart of San Cassiano is a former sawmill, and the original architecture has been fully restored to feature four beautiful Stuben – a place where modern design meets Ladin tradition.

An even more traditional destination for food lovers is the Maso Runch. This, too, boasts all the ambience of an traditional Ladin house. Here, in its cosy, rustic ambience, you can sample the best examples of Ladin cuisine, such as traditional Cajincí, pasta filled with spinach and ricotta and served with sage butter. Or why not try the turtres, delicious crispy pancakes filled with spinach or sauerkraut? Also served with the turtres is panicia, barley soup, a very typical dish for the valley.

As well as the very best skiing, and culinary delights, there are many other activities to enjoy. Adrenalin-fuelled fun and environmentally-friendly is a thrilling ride on the Horse-Drawn Carriage, which takes you on a 7km downhill run, to the connection between the Lagazuoi slope of the Falzarego Pass and the ski carousel. It’s a magical and unforgettable experience for parents and children alike.
