The last quarter of the year is upon us and their is no shortage of news events and fodder swirling around.  Two big economic events this month that will be used by both political parties (and spun) is the Unemployment Number on Friday, October 4th and the Q3 GDP number later this month.  In between all the economic news are three(3) Presidential debates.  Depending on the rhetoric, you should expect the markets to run.  We now have a S&P 500 Index Target range of 1,500 - 1,525 by end of October.  With the Fiscal Cliff issues looming by December 31st, 2012, few will use that for a reason to take down the markets before the Presidential Election.  The EU Debt situation is not going away, but there isn't much new information that we haven't already covered in previous commentaries.  The Spanish banks do need help, but now its not as much help as originally expected, that was seen as a positive to our markets.  Look for continued outflows of money in the EU markets while they add to our markets, specifically higher-yielding stocks and ETFs.  They want their money to work for them, not be at greater risk in the EU markets.

Corporate Earnings releases start up again in another week as there has been a lot of negative outlooks on both top and bottom lines of our top corporations for the 3rd quarter.  Typically the 3rd quarter is the weakest quarter of the year, but we are looking for many earnings beats, but moderate to positive guidance.  This will continue to push the markets higher in October.  If the guidance of many of the MegaCap stocks are moderate to negative, we still believe the markets will be higher, but to the lower end of our S&P 500 Index target range.
