Sept. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- “Sportfolio” begins its second fall on Bloomberg TV with a special inside look at the business challenges ahead for Penn State University's athletic programs.  "Penn State: Moving the Goalposts," explores the financial impact of a controversial scandal and resulting NCAA sanctions on one of the most historically successful and profitable programs in college sports, and how the program, the community, and the University are moving forward under new conditions.

How will Penn State pay off its $60 million fine? How will it reform an athletic culture called into serious question by the Freeh Report? How will Penn State football, facing bowl bans and scholarship reductions, maintain attendance even if performance suffers? What are the implications for merchandising, sponsorship, and alumni donations?

Hosted by Rick Horrow, the show sketches the growth of Penn State football into a business producing $70 million in annual revenue.  Athletic Director David M. Joyner, and the senior finance and marketing leaders of the Athletic Department, discuss the effect of NCAA penalties and mandates on the future direction of the program. Bloomberg reporter Curtis Eichelberger, former college Athletic Director David O'Brien, and Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany also comment on Penn State's situation, and discuss the strategies the University may employ in order to maintain financial health and support 31 Varsity sports.

The show debuts Wednesday night at  9:00 PM and 12:00 AM ET Thursday on Bloomberg TV (DirecTV 353, check your local cable systems for the channel near you).

Now beginning its second season, this week’s edition of “Sportfolio” will add to a guest list that has already included: NBA Commissioner David Stern, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, MLS Commissioner Don Garber,  Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie,  Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross,  Dodgers and Warriors co-owner Peter Guber, Cubs general manager Theo Epstein and owner Tom Ricketts, Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, Padres owner Jeff Moorad, NASCAR’s Brian France, Jeff Gordon, Masters Champion Bubba Watson, IZOD Indy Car’s Randy Bernard, golf hall of famers Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, and many, many others, with additional shows on the business of sport  planned well into the summer. The show reaches more than 270 million households through first-run and syndicated airings.
