Follow on Google News | NJ entrepreneurs create innovative system for More Humane, Efficient Wildlife ControlLocal NJ entrepreneurs developed TrapSmart, an innovative and humane solution to the problem of wildlife control, in 2006 and just recently launched their newest technological advance, TrapSmart WorldWide™.
By: www.trapsmart.com What is “wildlife control”? “Wildlife control” refers to the management of wildlife (raccoons or skunks, as examples) that have moved into humans’ living or work areas, like the attics of homes or the ceilings of warehouses, creating a hazard to people and/or endangering the animals themselves. When a home or business encounters a wild animal invasion, the usual practice by pest control professionals is to set a number of traps to humanely capture the animals. The traps are monitored regularly and any trapped animals are safely released back into the wild at another location. The professional trapper must visit every trap at least once every 24 hours (a legal requirement) In 2006, Watson and Burgio introduced TrapSmart, the first successful GPS wireless electronic trap monitoring system. TrapSmart enables the trapper to electronically monitor multiple traps remotely from a single location. How does TrapSmart work? A GPS control unit is attached to each trap. When an animal enters a trap, the unit sends an alert (email or text) directly to the trapper or to trap site personnel, who notify the trapper. The alerts signal the location of the trapped animal. Reminder alerts are sent every two hours until the animal is located and released. TrapSmart’s inventors didn’t stop there, however. Continuing to study the challenge of trap monitoring in areas where cellular service is spotty or nonexistent, Watson and Burgio developed a new, satellite-based system called TrapSmart WorldWide™. TrapSmart WorldWideTM allows wildlife control professionals to monitor traps anywhere, regardless of the availability of cellular service. It does this through the use of TrapSmart’s Globalstar Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) GPS Satellite Communication System and the Globalstar Data Network. The new system eliminates dependence on earth-based cellular communication grids, making it possible to monitor traps located in remote wilderness or other sparsely populated areas. With TrapSmart WorldWideTM, satellite data is delivered through the company’s proprietary trap management software, alerting the trapper via text message or email to the presence of a trapped animal. Just like the original TrapSmart, the TrapSmart WorldWideTM lanyard connects to any trap. It functions under extreme weather conditions, tolerating temperatures from 22 degrees below to 140 degrees above zero. The unit also has an impressive 2-1/2 year battery life. “We believe that TrapSmart WorldWideTM resets the benchmark for excellence in innovation throughout the wildlife control and management community,” co-founder Watson said. “It also ensures the humane treatment of wildlife.” For more information about TrapSmart, visit www.trapsmart.com or email info@trapsmart.com.
