Aug. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Campers and staff at Rolling River Day Camp in East Rockaway enjoyed an extra special and delicious treat on August 15 when members of the cast and crew from TLC’s hit show “Cake Boss” delivered and served an enormous “camp-themed” cake as part the camp’s 20th Anniversary celebration.  The incredible anniversary cake was created by “Cake Boss” star Buddy Valestro and his team from Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey.  After the delivery, Buddy and the bakers participated in relay races with the campers and challenged the counselors to a tug-of-war match.  “It was great to see the bakers have some fun while visiting us at camp,” said Rolling River counselor Matt Rothenberg.  “I only wish we could have beaten them at tug-of-war!”

The cake, which fed over 850 campers and staff members, featured an edible replica of Rolling River’s 5-acre campus and included dozens of campers (made out of molding chocolate) participating in sports and arts activities.  “The cake was absolutely beyond my expectations,” raved Alison Goodman, Rolling River’s Special Events Supervisor who also coordinated the “Cake Boss” visit.  “We could have never imagined the detail that went into this special cake, the final product was incredible!” she added.

Rolling River, which celebrated its 20th anniversary as a family owned and operated day camp this summer, worked all year to create a memorable celebration for this milestone and no birthday party would be complete without a cake.  “We knew an over-the-top cake was a must,” said Goodman.  “We were just fortunate that they wanted to feature our cake on an upcoming episode.”

Goodman stated how the cake was not only celebrating the anniversary of the camp but also served as a thank you to camp directors Rhonda and Mark Goodman.  Goodman and her siblings met with Buddy before the summer to create a “surprise” element of the cake that would specifically thank her parents for all of their hard work and dedication over the past 20 years.  “My parents met while working as camp counselors in the summer of 1975,” Goodman said.  “Summer camp is their life and we wanted to show them we appreciate everything they have done for the kids in this community.”

The episode of “Cake Boss” featuring Rolling River Day Camp will air during the show’s upcoming 6th season this winter.  The show averages close to 2 million viewers and follows Valestro and his family as they operate their bakery and create custom cakes for a variety of occasions.
