Amy Jefferies and Darrin Davis first met in the produce aisle of a metropolitan organic food co-op where they were both working.  Since their eyes first locked, they have been creating beautiful music together.  With Amy’s classical training in piano and her sweet daisy-like harmonies, she was the perfect contrast to Darrin’s bruised, gravelly delivery.  The union defined their talents and their purpose, and from this awakening comes outstanding music filled with the flowing sounds of intricate storylines.

The Darrin Davis Band’s release of their single “Tenderly” has brought delight to many and received instant recognition and enthusiastic responses from those in and out of the music industry.  This song is off of their yet to be released concept album “Almost Broke Even” which is about the life of Darrin’s Grandfather, Freddy Puckrin who was a farmer, musician and baseball player.  “This song is my grampa singing to my grandmother about how he appreciates all the things she does day in/day out to keep the family rolling through.  From sunrise to sunset, she’s always in his thoughts”, states Darrin.  This song is about being present and living in the moment.  We need to be cognizant of what is going on now, not tomorrow or yesterday.   It is an extraordinary song with much meaning and heartfelt emotion that literally floods our senses.  It is beautiful in every aspect of the word.  It is also a significant song as it is representative of the entire album’s style and grace.

“Almost Broke Even” is set for release in the Spring of 2013, and you might soon see additional tunes being pre-released.

Darrin and Amy have performed together onstage all across Canada including highlight performances at The Mariposa Folk Festival, Toronto’s Hugh’s Room, The Horseshoe, Lee’s Palace and The Supermarket, Ottawa’s Rideau Centre and numerous other venues in Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Quebec.  In June 2012 they were featured at 2 Saturday evening live performances in Manhattan at Lower East Side staple “Piano’s” and the prestigious “Living Room” venue.

Previous release “Stick To Your Guns” has done very well in Canada reaching the number one spot on the nation’s largest campus/community station, 89.5 CIUT and cracking the top 10 on the national Earshot folk charts.

Darrin Davis was also selected to be ‘writer in residence’ at the Socan House in Nashville for a week this Fall.  They are also planning a cross Canada tour when the album is released in the winter.

I’ve come to understand that music for me is entirely about connection.  It’s the reason I’ve listened obsessively to certain artists since I was very young (Bob Dylan, Louis Armstrong) and the reason why I wanted to create music in the first place.  To be able to pull something out of my experience, mold and shape it, record it at home, share it and have it mean something to people I know, and strangers, is a crazy blessing that I am very grateful for.”
