| 3 Comic-Con Tips for the Convention VirginWith the likes of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Convention, Japanese anime etc heating up in the UK this August, it’s pretty clear Britain is finally warming to the idea of the sci-fi and fantasy convention platform.
By: weboptimiser But the granddaddy of them all has to the US sci-fi convention, Comic Con. Although only the third largest in the world (after Japan’s Comiket and France’s Angouleme International Comics Festival), Comic Con is easily the most famous and attracts sell out crowds of international visitors each year. 1. Since 2006, overcrowding has been a serious issue. SDCC membership now sells out typically within hours of online release. So tip number one HAS to be to get the membership passes sorted before booking flights or hotels (they’ll be heaps of those!) Deadlines are actually a pretty central consideration for Comic Con; booths and tables deadlines can be months before the convention. Although the San Diego Convention Centre is downtown, local rates tend to skyrocket around Comic Con. If you can’t book early, check again in June when deposits are due and free rooms tend to pop up (otherwise you might have to sell your iPad to fund the cost!) 2. Official Comic Con apps achieved pretty favourable reviews across the board. It’s worth setting meeting and communication measures in place before arriving. It’s so crowded and noisy inside that your iPhone might be tough to hear. UK gadget company (and sci-fi fan office), Money4Machines, said the new features of the 3.0 iOS Comic Con app proved invaluable for many of their sell for cash gadget service users.
