Sisters Network Shreveport to Celebrate One Year Chapter Anniversary

Shreveport Chapter of Sisters Network Inc. will celebrate one year chapter milestone as well as honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to chapter growth and outreach

Aug. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Sisters Network Shreveport Chapter will celebrate their one year anniversary at a luncheon on Saturday, August 25th from noon to 2:00p.m. at 4 J's Java and More (605 Texas Street). A limited amount of tickets will be sold and are $20 each. Since its inception, the Chapter has reached more than 3,000 underserved women in Northwest Louisiana and has directed more than 30 women to free mammograms and clinical breast exams.
“Sisters Network Shreveport is truly a grassroots effort headed by a dedicated team of survivors, patients, caregivers, community leaders and volunteers,” says Crystal Brown-Tatum; Chapter Founder and breast cancer survivor. “We are a part of a national organization which is mission driven to reduce the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the African-American community and committed to educating women about breast health and current medical information to help them make informed decisions about their care and treatment which in turn increases their odds of survival.”
In addition to acknowledging the chapter milestone through a survivor celebration, the following individuals and organizations will be recognized for their commitment to raising awareness and reducing deaths from breast cancer in Northwest Louisiana:
•   4 J’s Java and More
•   Christian Dance Center
•   C. Wright Pink Ribbon Project
•   Destiny Day Spa
•   Southern University

The following individuals will receive the 2012 President’s Award:
•   Ms. Melody Brumble-Outstanding Journalism Coverage
•   Mr. Nathan Pizar-Outstanding Graphic Design Services
•   Mrs. Ebru Waters-Outstanding Advocacy


The Shreveport chapter marks the 44th chapter of Sisters Network Inc.; the nation’s only African-American breast cancer survivorship organization. Monthly support group meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6-7p.m. at 4 J’s Java and More (605 Texas Street).
