New EICs Named for IEEE Computer Society Publications

July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 24 July, 2012 – George Thiruvathukal, an associate professor of computer science at Loyola University Chicago, has been confirmed as editor in chief of Computing in Science & Engineering. Copublished with the American Institute of Physics, CiSE features the latest computational science and engineering research in an accessible format along with departments covering news and analysis, CSE in education, and emerging technologies. Thiruvathukal is also an associate editor with Computing Now.

Cecilia Metra, a professor at Università di Bologna and associate editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Computers, is the new editor in chief of Computing Now, a one-stop source for free, limited-time access to tech articles from the IEEE Computer Society's peer-reviewed magazines, journals, and conference proceedings. Metra is also a candidate for the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors.

Daniel Zeng, a professor of Management Information Systems at University of Arizona, is the incoming editor in chief of IEEE Intelligent Systems. The magazine's peer-reviewed, cutting-edge articles cover the theory and application of systems that perceive, reason, learn, and act intelligently.

Shari Lawrence Pfleeger, director of research for the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection at Dartmouth College, will serve as the new editor in chief of IEEE Security & Privacy.

S&P provides articles with both a practical and research bent by the top thinkers in the field along with case studies, tutorials, columns, and in-depth interviews and podcasts for the information security industry.
Jian Pei, professor of computing science at the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University in Canada, is the new editor in chief ofIEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering. Pei was previously associate editor in chief of TKDE, an monthly archival journal designed to inform researchers, developers, managers, strategic planners, users, and others interested in state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice activities in the knowledge and data engineering area.

David Forsyth, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will serve as editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Pattern and Machine Intelligence, a scholarly archival journal published monthly. Forsyth was previously a member of the advisory board of TPAMI, which covers traditional areas of computer vision and image understanding, all traditional areas of pattern analysis and recognition, and selected areas of machine intelligence.

The incoming editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Services Computingis Ling Liu, a professor in the College of Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology and 2012 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award winner. TSC is a journal that focuses on research on the algorithmic, mathematical, statistical, and computational methods that are central in services computing; the emerging field of Service Oriented Architecture, Web Services, Business Process Integration, Solution Performance Management, Services Operations and Management. Ling Liu was formerly associate editor in chief of TSC.

In addition, Ying Xu of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Institute of Bioinformatic at the University of Georgia, has been named editor in chief of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
