Barefoot Sunday: Giving Your Sole for a Greater Cause

SAN DIEGO, CA – Over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes lay idle in American closets while 300 million children around the world go barefoot. The Rock Church and Soles4Souls Inc. challenges San Diegans to give up their shoes and donate them to those who really need them.

Soles4Souls Inc. has collected and donated shoes since it was founded in 2006 to alleviate the hardship after Hurricane Katrina. Since then, the charity has distributed over 18 million pairs of shoes in 130 countries and facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. On Sunday, July 29th, Soles4Souls and the Rock Church will be partnering up to collect new and gently used shoes to donate to needy countries around the world.

Rock Church attendees can bring their shoes to either the Point Loma or North County campus and drop them off in a marked bin. If unable to attend on the 29th, people can take their shoes to the Rock Thrift Store (3191-B Sports Arena Blvd. San Diego, CA 92110) or drop them off at the Launch Pad in Liberty Station (2474 Cushing Rd. San Diego, CA 92106) on Sundays starting July 15th.

In addition to a shoe collection, the Rock will be hosting a Barefoot Sunday. Rock attendees will be asked to wear their shoes that they wish to donate, leave them at the Rock, and walk home barefoot (or at least to their cars!) to experience what it’s like to go barefoot everyday.

Shoes of all kinds will be accepted, no matter how used or aged. Soles4Souls divides shoes up by season and style and sends them to countries with the appropriate climates and repurposes unwearable shoes. Half pairs will also be accepted and the more shoes that are donated the more need will be alleviated.
